We will definitely be stopping again to make sure we are able to get the prime rib. My girlfriend, did however get the prime rib sandwich and she said it was incredible! The salad bar is in a kind of out the way location, but that just meant we were able to see some of the interesting items on display.

Step Into History for a Truly Comforting Meal
I was looking for a charming mom-and-pop place for dinner and was referred to Kalmes Restaurant, about 10 miles away. The drive was absolutely beautiful—just the beginning of a wonderfully delicious evening. I’m so glad I knew ahead of time that Kalmes is attached to a gas station; otherwise, I probably would have driven right past it!
What a delightful historical gem! Established in 1850, walking into Kalmes felt like stepping into a long-lost time capsule. I was greeted with a warm, good-ole-fashioned smile and immediately felt at home. The staff clearly wanted me to enjoy my meal, and I did—not just any meal, but a truly delicious, home-cooked, comfort-food dinner. I had a perfectly cooked filet mignon with a baked potato, hearty homemade Irish stew, and an array of fresh, homemade salads from the salad bar—every bite was incredible.
The walls are adorned with hundreds of historical photos of the Kalmes family and the restaurant over its 160+ years. It’s been many moons since I’ve enjoyed a meal this comforting in such a cozy, home-style setting. Kalmes Restaurant is an absolute treasure!
